Wow!

I bought a book for Mom as one of her Christmas presents titled "The Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul" by Philip Doddridge. For those of you who have seen "Amazing Grace" (with Ioan Gruffudd) you saw this book sitting on his nightstand in one shot. Mom is a huge William Wilberforce fan, and once she found that W.W. read this book and spoke so highly of it, she set out to find it (thankfully I found this one before she did! LOL!).
When I bought this for her I noticed that it was a very old book, once I read the inscription. It says:

Thomas March

Thomas March
was my great-grandfather,the husband of Charlotte Huntington, daughter of Jonathon Huntington, next younger brother of Samuel Huntington, signer of the Declaration of Independence,Governor of Connecticut, President of the Congress which drew the Constitution. Thomas March's daughter, Sophia, married faae( ?..I can't make out the name here) Saltby...my mother's father.
There book in the great care that ...
(?) Thomas March's reading in my grandfather's bedroom are one of my earliest remembrances of him.

To make sure this was accurate I went on Wikipedia, and sure enough this was true, and I found Samuel Huntington's picture:

Amazing! And what a wonderful find! The book is just lovely -- and what an inscription!

I, too, have wanted to read this book ever since I learned of its importance to William Wilberforce. Isn't it interesting how the opinions of the people we respect influence us?

Yours in Christ,
Shannon
